Paper outline
Abstract
The purpose of this discussion is to explore various elderly emergency preparedness
programs that can be exploited to help the elderly during the disaster in Utah State proactively.
The discussion will incorporate elements of elderly hazards vulnerabilities and various emergency
preparedness resources and information, particularly on special assistance. Utah State population
settle between the Wasatch Range and the Salt Lake Valley. The purpose of elderly emergency
preparedness is to come up with action plans to utilize in times of disaster strikes.
Targeted topics

Elderly hazards vulnerabilities
The elderly at Utah State is vulnerable to various hazards such as snowstorms, wildfires,
and extreme weather conditions, to mention a few. The elderly is susceptible to these hazards
because of their impaired mobility, minimizing sensory awareness, chronic health conditions,
and social and economic limitations.

Available hazard emergency preparedness programs
The United States, through the Davis County Health Department, has already moved
swiftly in coming up with plans to counter the various emerging hazards. Despite the
availability of special need group, the department has left a gap in the elderly.

Hazard identification
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR THE ELDERLY
3
The state of Utah is faced with many hazards, not only to the elderly but also to the general
public. Some of the evident dangers include avalanche, drought, wildfire, and geologic
hazards. However, various challenges affect conducting a hazard identification and risk
assessment analyses.

Hazard mitigation plan
Various available plans to mitigate the identified hazards, reflecting on their impacts with
respect to elderly individuals at Utah State.
Expected conclusion
Conclusively, this paper addresses the gap left in coming up with emergency preparedness
programs majorly for people with special needs. The findings would be different from the earlier
research, and recommendations will be based on elderly programs.
